Can I get a healthcare rebate with Osteopathy?
Yes. Check with your Private Health Insurance to make sure you have osteopathy included in your extras cover. Then, bring your health fund card with youto your next appointment & we can make the claim for you on the spot.
Are there any other claims I can make?
Yes. If you don’t have Private Health insurance or it’s run out, and you’ve had a chronic musculoskeletal condition (longer than 6 months), you can ask your GP for an Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) Plan. This entitles you to 5 visits to an allied health professional where you receive a medicare rebate of $55 back per session (saving $275 per year).
We also accept Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) Allied Health Treatment Cycle Referrals for eligible DVA clients.
What can I expect at my first appointment?
During your first appointment, you can expect that your practitioner will ask you a lot of questions to gain an understanding of your presenting injury or condition, plus to gauge your overall health and wellbeing.
Depending on your condition your practitioner will conduct a physical examination which may involve doing certain movements or tests. There will be an element of hands-on assessment, where they will palpate and examine areas of the body that are related to your condition
Depending on the service you are seeking your first appointment may involve treatment therapies including exercise therapy or hands-on manual therapy.
Each client can expect to leave their first appointment with a clear plan of what is involved to reach their health goals. This management plan is also emailed to each client. You may also have some ‘homework’ including exercises or lifestyle changes to implement prior to your next session.
What do I need to bring/wear?
If you have any scans, reports, or referrals from other health care practitioners please bring these to the session.
As there is an element of manual therapies to our sessions, you may be required you to expose areas of skin to get the best out of the treatment (for example if massage therapy is required). Otherwise, loose fitting clothing or active wear is best.
Do I need a referral?
You don’t need a referral to attend or book a session at Osteopathic Spine and Sport. You can gain a Medicare referral from your GP under the Chronic Disease Management plan which entitles you to a rebate on five allied health sessions per year, you can claim this rebate on-site at our clinics.
Can I use my Private Health Insurance cover?
Our service is offered under ‘extras’ in private health insurance policies. Each private health insurer offers different policies for different services, it is best to contact your insurer to find out what rebates you are entitled to. You can claim your private health insurance rebate on the day of your appointment at our clinics.
